How we gradeInspector’s condition notes
Lens in like-new condition — another one of the legendary 1:2 macro. Optics are pristine, no scratch. Focus and aperture ring glide silky-smooth like a brand-new lens. Internal components are tight, with no internal play or rattle. The exterior body looks like new, though there are a few small spots of paint loss or scratch (2-3 marks) around the lens barrel edges or near the focus ring and aperture ring (you have to look closely to see them).
How this lens renders
Compared to other macro lenses with the same specs 50mm, this one stands out for its sharpness. Wide open at f/3.5, it's genuinely sharp from the start — about as sharp as when you stop down to f/8. No need to worry about the image falling apart at full aperture. The bokeh at macro distances is soft and creamy, with beautiful background separation. Wide open, you get round bubble bokeh; stop down and the six-sided shape becomes more defined (straight 6 aperture blades) — a signature look of lenses from this era. Colors lean toward the 'Olympus Colours' palette: relatively cool with a purple cast, unlike typical Japanese lenses that tend to lean green. Flare is well controlled for a lens of this age when there's a light source in the frame, but if strong light is just outside the frame, I'd recommend fitting a lens hood to prevent haze. 0.5x magnification, compact and easy to carry. Sharp and great value — a vintage lens option that genuinely works for both macro and general shooting.
