Lens in good condition. The optical elements are perfect with no scratches. Focus and aperture are smooth like a new lens. Internal components are tight with no internal movement or rattle. The exterior body shows use, with easily noticeable scratches and paint loss throughout.

How this lens renders

Compared to the 55mm with the same specifications, the standout strength of this Micro-Nikkor is its sharpness. This lens replicates the Xenotar optical design that Zenji Wakimoto developed back in 1956, achieving a level of sharpness that's hard to come by. Wide open at f/3.5, it's sharp right from the start without needing to stop down, and going up to f/8, it captures detail even more solidly—at a level that handles high-resolution bodies like the D800 with ease. The bokeh on this lens dissolves the background softly and helps push three-dimensional depth into the image. It's considered softer than the later 55mm f/2.8 AI-S version. Although some may view the bokeh as middling, the overall image rendering remains distinctive. With its identity as a sharp, solidly built macro manual focus lens with excellent build quality, this lens is well-suited for those who prioritize detail work, close-up shooting, or use it as a trusted standard lens.
