Inspector’s condition notes

Lens in like-new condition. Optical is perfect with no scratch. Focus and aperture glide smoothly like a new lens. Internal components are solid with no internal rattle. The external body looks like new, but has 2-3 small areas of paint loss or scratch on the lens barrel edges or around the focus ring and aperture ring. (You have to look closely to notice)

How this lens renders

Compared to a lens of the same spec 135mm, this Carl Zeiss Triotar is a manual focus telephoto lens that delivers a pleasing compressed perspective for portrait work. The name Triotar refers to its simple three-element (triplet) construction, which has its own quiet charm. At f/4 wide open, the center of the frame offers usable sharpness, while the edges go slightly soft — simply part of the lens's character. Stop down to f/8–f/11, and sharpness and contrast firm up nicely across the whole frame. With a focal length of 135mm and an aperture of f/4, this lens melts backgrounds with ease, pulling the subject away from its surroundings and producing soft, gentle bokeh — well-suited to evocative, mood-driven shots. The color rendering leans toward a filmic look with pleasing contrast that responds well in post. A great fit for those who enjoy portraiture and like working with manual focus lenses on mirrorless bodies via an adapter. And as a classic Zeiss prime, it remains a genuinely usable piece that's well worth adding to a collection.
