How we gradeInspector’s condition notes
Lens is in like-new condition. The optics are perfect with no scratches. Focus and aperture are buttery smooth, just like a brand-new lens. Internal components are tight with no rattling or loose elements. The exterior body condition is essentially like new, but there are 2-3 small paint chips or scratches along the edges of the lens barrel, focus ring, or aperture ring (you have to look closely to spot them).
How this lens renders
Compared to the 24mm f/2.8 with the same specs, this Nikkor doesn't stand out for optical character — it sells itself on honesty and rock-solid build quality. A dependable workhorse manual focus lens. Center sharpness is good even wide open. The edges are still soft on full frame at f/2.8, then sharpen up noticeably by f/5.6–f/8, which is the lens's sweet spot. Contrast sits in the middle range, but micro-contrast is good. Stop down to this region and detail is captured cleanly. Color leans neutral to slightly warm, with honest red and yellow tones. It renders atmosphere faithfully. Bokeh performs well at this range — highlights show a slight angular shape from the 7 aperture blades. Vignetting at wide open works nicely to create mood and pull the eye toward the central subject, then fades off when you stop down to f/5.6. Flare control from the NIC coating is decent for its age. If you're shooting straight into the sun, I'd recommend the HN-1 lens hood — it's the best defense against ghosting. Suited for anyone after a 24mm workhorse manual focus lens that's sharp and trustworthy. A genuinely practical choice.
