Inspector’s condition notes

A well-used lens. This famous Nikon portrait lens is being sold at a reduced price due to its heavily used condition. On the distance scale area, a part is missing; the previous owner made a paper scale and stuck it on. If used with a film camera, it will not function fully because the missing part serves as the aperture mechanism between the camera and the lens, which may cause the film camera to malfunction. However, with a digital camera, it has no effect on use, since you need to adjust the exposure manually anyway (using M mode). The aperture ring operates normally, clicking down at every stop. The front lens element has cleaning marks. No fungus or haze. No marks on the rear element. Focus and aperture are as smooth as a new lens. Internal components are tight. No internal lens rattle. The exterior condition has cracks and some material parts are missing (the missing or broken parts do not affect functionality).

How this lens renders

Compared to other lenses of the same 105mm focal length and specifications, this Nikon 105mm f/2.5 truly stands out for its sharpness — the kind that can easily hold its own against modern glass. Wide open at f/2.5, it's still sharp and genuinely usable. Stop down to between f/4 and f/5.6, and the edges of the frame become noticeably crisper. What makes this lens a legend is its soft, creamy bokeh. It melts the background away smoothly, with a gentle focus roll-off from foreground to background subject — no distracting onion rings or bubbles. The colors render beautifully in that classic vintage lens way. Between f/2.5 and f/4, you'll find a hint of vignetting that works nicely as a moody frame around the image, and it fades away once you stop down to f/5.6. This is the legendary lens behind Steve McCurry's "Afghan Girl" photograph. It's perfect for portrait shooters looking for both sharpness and image character — a worthy addition to any collection.
