Lens in good condition — another quality Nikon lens with a wide field of view of up to 20mm, and it controls Distortion very well. The Optical is pristine, with no scratch. Focus and aperture are buttery smooth, just like a new lens. Internal components feel tight, with no internal movement or rattle. The exterior body shows honest signs of use, with easily visible scratch and paint loss scattered around the lens barrel.

How this lens renders

Compared to other wide angle lenses of the same spec, what stands out about this Nikkor 20mm f/4 AI is just how compact the body is — easy to carry, and you can take it out all day without weighing your bag down. On sharpness, wide open at f/4 the center is usable, but the edges are still soft. Stopping down to f/5.6, the edges start picking up detail noticeably better, and it's sharpest through the f/8–f/11 range — well suited to landscape and architectural work that needs sharpness across the frame. At f/4 this lens produces clear vignetting. It works nicely for mood or for drawing the eye toward the center, and it fades as you stop down. With the older coating, flare comes easily when shooting into the light. If you'd rather avoid it, we recommend fitting a lens hood for backlit shots. This is a lens produced between 1974 and 1977, with fewer than 23,000 units made. Compact body, solid build quality — well worth collecting and perfectly usable on mirrorless cameras.
