How we gradeInspector’s condition notes
Collector-condition lens — another iconic model from Vivitar. This one is in Canon EOS mount, so it fits Canon DSLR bodies directly with no adapter needed. The optics are pristine with no scratches. Focus and aperture action is buttery smooth, like a brand-new lens. Internal elements are tight with no rattle when handling. The exterior body is in like-new condition — no scratches, no scuffs, and no paint loss.
How this lens renders
Compared to lenses 85mm f/1.8 of the same spec, this one stands out primarily for its sharpness. Wide open at f/1.8, it's already usably sharp. There's some chromatic aberration visible, but once you stop down to f/2.8, it drops noticeably and is practically gone from f/4 onward. It's a focal length well-suited to portrait work, capturing fine detail even at the widest apertures. The bokeh renders the background nicely in a clean, easy-on-the-eyes style — no flashy character or swirly bokeh. It focuses on separating the subject from the background naturally, making it a good match for portrait shooting where you want a sharp subject paired with a soft, pleasing backdrop. Mechanically, the build quality here is on the simple side — it doesn't feel as premium in the hand as older German lenses. But in exchange for the sharpness it delivers, it's a genuinely practical choice for portrait shooters working within a sensible budget.
