Lens in collector condition. Optical elements are pristine with no scratches. Focus and aperture move as smoothly as a new lens. Internal components are solid with no rattling when handling. Exterior body is like new — no scratches, no scuffs, no paint loss.

How this lens renders

Compared to a telephoto lens 100mm of the same spec, what makes this Trioplan 100mm f/2.8 a legend is the soap bubble bokeh it renders wide open f/2.8. Background highlights form distinct circular outlines — a signature you simply can't get from modern lenses. Stop down to f/4 and those bubble shapes soften, melting into the background far more smoothly. In terms of sharpness, wide open it delivers a film-like low contrast with flexible tones that are easy to grade further. Stop down to f/8 and the lens truly comes alive in sharpness, especially on a 24MP sensor. The colors evoke a feel similar to an older Zeiss Biotar. Shooting into backlight can produce flare, so if you'd prefer to avoid it, I'd suggest shading the front of the lens with your hand — the lens hood is short and doesn't really stay in place. This one is ideal for anyone chasing that soap bubble bokeh for portraits or flowers to achieve a distinctive look. A vintage lens truly worth collecting.
