How we gradeInspector’s condition notes
The lens is in heavily used condition. It's another lens with beautiful rendering — the skintones are gorgeous, unlike typical Canon FD or FL mount lenses. The optical shows marks on the rear element. Focus and aperture move smoothly, like a new lens. Internal components are solid, with no internal lens movement sounds. The exterior body shows signs of use, with easily noticeable scratches and paint loss throughout the lens.
How this lens renders
Compared to a 50mm lens of the same spec, this Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 non-S.S.C. version really stands out for its soft, gentle look that captures the charm of a vintage lens. Wide open at f/1.4, it delivers a pleasing softness with a subtle, dreamy glow — contrast is gentle, the tone leans filmic, and it still retains a respectable level of detail without losing too much sharpness. Once you stop down to around f/2.8, the image tightens up with crisper detail and the contrast climbs accordingly. The real selling point, though, is the bokeh. This one falls squarely into the "bokeh machine" category — it melts the background into a smooth, creamy wash. The bokeh is round and soft, with no swirly or hard edges, and colors are nicely saturated. Even at f/1.4, it can still produce a light vignetting that helps draw the eye toward the subject, fading away as you stop down. It's a great match for portrait shooters or anyone chasing that filmic mood — anyone who wants dreamy, soft backgrounds over the clinical sharpness of modern lenses.
