Lens in like-new condition. The optical elements are flawless with no scratches. Focus and aperture are silky smooth, just like a brand-new lens. Internal components are solid—no rattling or movement from internal elements. The exterior body is in like-new condition, though there are 2–3 small paint chips or scratches along the edges of the lens barrel or around the focus ring and aperture ring (you have to look closely to notice them).

How this lens renders

Compared to other 50mm lenses of the same spec on the Yashica ML f/1.4 market, this one delivers Planar-style sharpness and contrast from Zeiss, but at a much more approachable price. Wide open at f/1.4, the lens softens slightly only when shooting at minimum focus distance. Once you stop down to f/2, sharpness comes through fully, and it's razor-sharp from f/4 onwards. The real standout is the excellent contrast and tonal gradation — it holds detail in dark shadows very well, making it especially well-suited for black-and-white work. The bokeh melts the background smoothly. Low fringing (you may see some purple fringing only when wide open at f/1.4 in harsh lighting). The colors are vivid and stable, with no shift even when shooting into backlight. For anyone looking for a manual focus 50mm lens that delivers Planar-like character at a reasonable budget, this is a practical option worth adding to a collection.
