How we gradeInspector’s condition notes
Lens in good condition. The Optical is perfect with no scratch. Focus and aperture operate smoothly like a new lens. Internal components are tight, with no loose movement inside. The external body shows normal signs of use, with visible scratch and paint loss typical for a lens of this age.
How this lens renders
Compared to the 55mm lens of the same spec, this Rikenon f/1.4 offers rare value—you get nearly the full character of a legendary fast lens at an accessible price. At f/1.4 wide open, the center is acceptably sharp with a soft, creamy glow. Stopped down to f/2.8, sharpness jumps noticeably and contrast tightens up. The edges reach their peak sharpness around f/5.6–f/8 (the edges never quite catch up to the center fully—typical character of a lens from this era). The bokeh melts the background smoothly, with soft circular outlines free of distracting edges. The background tonal falloff is beautiful, and a warm yellowish cast flatters skin tones—great for portrait work. The 6-blade aperture produces hexagonal highlights when stopped down past f/2. Vignetting can be used to draw the eye toward the center starting at f/1.4, then gradually fades as you stop down to f/2.8. The single-coated version is prone to flare and ghosting when shooting into the light. If you'd like to avoid flare, I recommend using a lens hood for backlit shots. Overall, this is a portrait lens that offers excellent value and is genuinely usable—well worth keeping in your bag.
