How we gradeInspector’s condition notes
Lens in like-new condition. Optics are pristine, free of scratches. Focus and aperture are buttery smooth, just like a new lens. Internals are tight, with no rattle inside. The exterior body looks like new, but there are 2-3 small spots of paint loss or light scratches along the edges of the barrel, or around the focus ring and aperture ring (you have to look closely to see them).
How this lens renders
Compared to the 28mm f/2 with the same specs, this Vivitar (Kiron body, serial 22xxxxx, manufactured by Kino Precision for Vivitar) stands out for its excellent value and the sharpness it delivers well beyond its class. It's an affordable fast wide angle that gets a lot of love from manual focus enthusiasts. Sharpness is solid wide open at f/2 — which is the hallmark of a fast wide angle lens. Stop down to the f/5.6–f/8 range and sharpness evens out nicely across the frame, making it well suited for landscape and street work. Background separation is impressively soft and creamy, producing pleasant, easy-on-the-eye bokeh. Early versions came with a focus throw of up to 260 degrees and a dual helicoid with a floating element, allowing for precise and accurate focusing (a detail that vintage lens collectors truly appreciate). Overall, it's a genuinely usable fast wide angle that's well worth adding to a collection.
