How we gradeInspector’s condition notes
Lens in good condition. The glass elements are flawless, with no scratches. Focus and aperture turn smoothly, like new. Internal components are tight, with no play or rattling inside. The exterior shows honest use — there are visible scratches and paint loss around the lens body. There's an engraving on the lens, likely the previous owner's address.
How this lens renders
Compared to the same-spec 55mm lens, the highlight of this one is that it's a macro prime specifically designed for close-up shooting. It delivers sharpness at the minimum focus distance that's hard to find in a regular normal lens. Regarding sharpness—wide open at f/3.5, the center is acceptably sharp right from the first aperture. Once you stop down to f/5.6–f/8, the whole frame becomes tack-sharp with every detail captured. Well suited for product shots, flowers, or collectibles. With the f/3.5 aperture, background separation really comes into its own at close-up distances. The shallower depth of field produces soft bokeh that never distracts from the subject. The color rendering has that classic vintage manual focus lens character—tones come out smooth and refined, and easy to work with in post. It's a vintage manual focus lens that's genuinely usable for anyone who enjoys macro work or close-up portraits—great value both for shooting and for collecting.

Honest disclosure
Minolta Macro
The Minolta MD Macro 55mm f/3.5 is a Minolta MD-mount macro prime; the available sources describe the related 50mm and 100mm Minolta macro lenses rather than this 55mm, so this specific lens's rendering and history are not documented here.
