How we gradeInspector’s condition notes
Lens in like-new condition. Optics are perfect — no scratches. Focus and aperture operate as smoothly as a new lens. Internal components are tight with no play or movement. The exterior body looks like new, but there are 2–3 small areas of paint loss or scratches around the lens barrel edges, focus ring, and aperture ring (you have to look closely to notice them). The lens is in near-perfect condition overall, except for a small amount of scuffing around the filter thread, though filters still mount and turn smoothly.
How this lens renders
The Minolta Rokkor-X 50mm f/1.4 stands out among its peers for its compelling value and notable bokeh. Shooters appreciate its generally smooth and unobtrusive out-of-focus areas, with the 6-7 blade aperture providing reasonably circular shapes when stopped down. Compared to a typical fast fifty of its era, this lens offers characteristically warm colors with an amber bias that flatters skin tones, although blues lean toward cyan. It delivers excellent center sharpness even wide open, peaking between f/5.6 and f/8. However, a known limitation is its moderate to pronounced vignetting at wider apertures, though this diminishes significantly when stopped down.
