How we gradeInspector’s condition notes
Lens is in like-new condition. The optics are flawless with no scratches. Focus and aperture are as smooth as on a new lens. Internal components are tight with no internal element rattle. The exterior of the lens looks like new, but there are 2–3 small spots of paint loss or scratches on the lens body edges, the focus ring, and the aperture ring (you have to look closely to notice).
How this lens renders
The Minolta Rokkor-X 50mm f/1.4 stands out among its peers for its compelling value and notable bokeh. Shooters appreciate its generally smooth and unobtrusive out-of-focus areas, with the 6-7 blade aperture providing reasonably circular shapes when stopped down. Compared to a typical fast fifty of its era, this lens offers characteristically warm colors with an amber bias that flatters skin tones, although blues lean toward cyan. It delivers excellent center sharpness even wide open, peaking between f/5.6 and f/8. However, a known limitation is its moderate to pronounced vignetting at wider apertures, though this diminishes significantly when stopped down.
