How we gradeInspector’s condition notes
Lens in good condition. This is the Series 1, the first version produced at Kiron. It's a very famous vintage zoom lens from before the autofocus era. However, when used well, it can easily hold its own against current regular zoom lenses, with much better price and durability. It's popular among collectors. The zoom barrel retracts when the lens is stood upright; this does not affect the image or operation. Mount: Konica AR. The Optical elements are flawless with no scratches. Focus and aperture are smooth like a new lens. Internal parts are complete, with possibly some dust particles present (as-is). The external lens body shows signs of use, with easily noticeable scratches or paint loss throughout the lens body.
How this lens renders
Compared to other telephoto zoom lenses from the same era, this Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm f/3.5 stands out with its solid build quality and Very Good-grade optics at a very reasonable price. Wide open at f/3.5, it delivers moderate sharpness with that soft vintage lens character. Stopping down to f/5.6–f/8 brings a clear jump in sharpness, and by f/8–f/11 it resolves impressively sharp detail corner to corner across the frame. Another highlight is the bokeh, which many reviews praise as creamy—melting the background naturally without looking busy. It holds contrast and color tone nicely. This copy also has a built-in macro mode, letting you move in close for fun detail shots. A note on handling: the focus ring rotates in the opposite direction from most lenses, so there's a small adjustment period at first, but once you're used to it, the action feels smooth in the hand. Great for anyone after a manual focus telephoto zoom that's a true working lens—equally at home for portrait and macro work—at a budget-friendly price.
