How we gradeHow this lens renders
Compared to the 50mm lens of the same spec, the standout of this Takumar Macro is its sharpness, designed specifically for close-range flat-field work. The 4 lens elements in 3 groups deliver consistent sharpness across the entire frame. Wide open at f/4, it's already sharp enough for real-world use from the center outward. Stop down to f/5.6–f/8 and sharpness peaks, holding full detail right to the edges—great for product shots, flowers, and copy work. At aperture f/4, background separation leans toward a clean, filmic tonality rather than busy bokeh: soft rendering with well-controlled chromatic aberration. As for flare, the Super-Multi-Coated version handles it better than the earlier model, but for shooting into strong backlight, a lens hood is recommended. A manual-focus macro lens with solid build quality—worth adding to a collection and a pleasure to actually use on a mirrorless body.
