Inspector’s condition notes

This lens is in excellent cosmetic condition overall, with clean black finish and fully legible markings. There are light surface scuffs on the barrel and a noticeable abrasion on the grip area, plus some wear on the rear mount. No dents or corrosion are visible.

How this lens renders

Compared to other 55mm lenses with the same specs, this one stands out for its impressively wide maximum aperture of f/1.2—a rare find among vintage lenses from that era. When shot wide open at f/1.2, the rendering leans soft and gentle, giving an airy feel that’s perfect for portraits where you want a delicate, flattering look. Stop down to f/2.8 and the sharpness climbs noticeably, hitting peak crispness around f/8. With an aperture this wide, background blur comes easily and the depth of field is razor-thin. The bokeh is naturally round and smooth, as you’d expect from a fast lens like this. Nail your focus and your subject will pop beautifully against the background. Overall, this is a great lens for portrait lovers and low-light shooters. Given the rarity of an f/1.2 aperture, it’s definitely a worthy addition to any collection.

Olympus 55mm f1.2

The Olympus OM F.Zuiko 55mm f/1.2 is a fast professional-grade standard prime with a thoriated 'radioactive' front element; it is soft with a dreamy glow wide open at f/1.2, sharpens by f/2 and becomes very sharp by f/5.6, and imparts a warm yellow cast as the glass ages.

The history below is for this exact model — it matches the lens you’re viewing.
Signature
Warm, yellow-shifted colour cast from the aging radioactive thoriated front element, requiring significant white-balance correction.
