How we gradeInspector’s condition notes
This lens is in excellent cosmetic condition overall. The barrel, rings, and mount look clean, with only light handling marks and a few small scuffs visible on close inspection. Printed markings is perfect. No dents, corrosion, or heavy finish loss.
How this lens renders
Compared to 50mm lenses of the same spec from the same era, what makes this Minolta 50mm f/1.7 stand out is its punchy contrast and rich, saturated colors straight from the lens — no need to push it hard in post. Wide open at f/1.7, the rendering has a lovely, characterful softness. Stopped down to f/2.8, the center starts to sharpen up and resolve detail nicely, and by f/8 it's tack-sharp across the entire frame. As for bokeh — wide open you get smooth, rounded circles that melt the background beautifully. Stop down a bit and you'll start to see some polygonal aperture blades in point light sources, but I think that adds to its personality rather than being a flaw. The color tonality is quite filmic and very forgiving when grading. It's a genuinely usable vintage lens option, solid value for the money, and well suited for anyone wanting a standard prime with good character to keep on their favorite mirrorless body.
