This lens is in excellent optical and mechanical condition, with pristine optics ensuring clear and sharp images. The focus and aperture mechanisms operate smoothly and precisely. Cosmetically, the lens is very clean with minimal wear, featuring tiny edge/rim scuffs and minor handling marks that are only noticeable on close inspection. The body finish and engravings remain sharp without significant brassing or paint loss.
How this lens renders
The Contax/Yashica 50mm f/1.9 stands out in its class for its swirly bokeh, reminiscent of the Helios 44 series, offering an artistic touch especially in close-up photography. Its lighter color palette provides a contrast to the more saturated look of the older Auto Yashinon 5.5cm f/1.8. While it delivers impressive in-focus resolution, comparable fast fifties often exceed it in sharpness. A notable limitation is its hard vignetting at wide apertures, requiring photographers to stop down to F4-5.6 for even light distribution across the frame.

The Yashica ML 50mm f/1.9 is an under-rated, affordable Contax/Yashica-mount nifty-fifty capable of Helios-style swirly bokeh while retaining good sharpness, ideal for creative out-of-focus rendering and close-up work if you accept its hard wide-open vignetting and distortion.
