How this lens renders
Compared with the 55mm f/1.4 of the same specs, this one was manufactured by Tomioka for Chinon. The standout is the build quality — solid well beyond the price. It's a vintage lens in M42 mount that delivers genuine vintage character at excellent value. On sharpness: wide open at f/1.4, it renders that classic vintage softness, though at close distances it still holds detail nicely. Once you stop down to the range of f/4 to f/8, the sharpness really comes in, holding all the way to f/11 — sharp across the whole frame. The bokeh dissolves the background beautifully, giving images that lovely old-lens feel. It suits portraits and any work where a gentle, soft tone is desired. It's a great match for anyone looking for a f/1.4 with strong character on a modest budget — delivering both real-world shooting performance and build quality that's well worth collecting.
