How we gradeInspector’s condition notes
Lens in like-new condition. Optics are pristine, with no scratches. Focus and aperture operate as smoothly as a new lens. Internal components are tight, with no internal lens movement sounds. The exterior body is in like-new condition, but there are a few spots of paint loss or 2-3 scratches along the edges of the lens barrel, focus ring, or aperture ring. (You have to look closely to see them.)
How this lens renders
Compared to other telephoto lenses with the same 135mm specs, this Pentacon Auto MC traces its lineage to the Meyer-Optik Görlitz Orestor design. Its standout feature is the warm tone that renders skin delicately — ideal for portrait work. As for sharpness, wide open at f/2.8, it delivers the soft rendering typical of vintage lenses from that era — it captures details adequately but not aggressively. Stopping the aperture down to f/5.6-f/8, sharpness comes through fully, satisfyingly sharp across the entire frame. With a focal length of 135mm and an aperture of f/2.8, this lens melts the background beautifully. The bokeh is creamy and pleasing, and in moments where the background has detail, you'll see swirly bokeh with dimension — a signature that's hard to find elsewhere. The lens features multi-coating to help with contrast. Overall, this is a manual focus portrait lens that's fun to shoot with — offering both image character and great value. Worth adding to a collection.
