How this lens renders
Compared to a telephoto lens of the same spec 135mm, this one stands out with sharpness wide open. The all-metal body is solid and compact—true OM craftsmanship. Open at f/2.8, it's sharp across the entire frame from center to edge. Detail holds up fully even on a high-resolution full-frame sensor. Contrast is tight and consistent, pulling clean shadow detail. Stopped down to f/5.6–f/8, it really hits its sharpness ceiling. The bokeh melts the background naturally and softly, with no distracting rings or outlines. Colors are accurate and beautifully toned; black-and-white shots also have a gentle, smooth tonal gradation. At f/2.8 there's about 1.1EV of vignetting, useful for setting mood and drawing the eye to the center of the frame. It fades as you stop down to f/4 and is nearly gone by f/5.6. This lens comes with a built-in extending hood, but it doesn't extend very far—when shooting into the light, I'd recommend shading with your hand for extra help. The aperture ring sits in front of the focus ring; give it a moment and turning becomes second nature. A portable telephoto that's sharp and color-accurate wide open, ideal for portraits and capturing distant detail. Worthy of any collection.
