Collector-grade lens — another Russian macro lens with plenty of inherent character. It achieves 1:2 macro without extension tubes, and features unusually distinctive bokeh that changes shape with the aperture: round at f/2.8, star-shaped from f/3.2 to f/8, and hexagonal from f/9 to f/16. What makes it truly special is the remarkably smooth background melt. The optics are pristine — no scratch. Focus and aperture glide as smoothly as on a new lens. Internal components are solidly mounted, with no internal movement or rattle. The exterior body is in like-new condition — no scratch, no scuffs, no paint loss.

How this lens renders

Compared to lenses of the same spec 50mm, the standout of the Volna-9 is that it's a true macro lens M42 capable of close-up shooting at up to 1:2 (and up to 1:1 with an extension tube), all at an accessible price point. As for sharpness, wide open at f/2.8, it's reasonably sharp for portraits and close-up work. Stop down to f/5.6-8 and sharpness improves noticeably, especially for close-range macro. Overall contrast is good. What wins many people over is the bokeh. Wide open, the background melts into a particularly smooth, creamy blur. When you stop down, the 6 aperture blades render highlights as polygonal/star shapes (6-pointed) — a signature look that's fun to play with against point light sources in the background. It's well suited for those who want a single manual focus lens that handles both macro work and beautiful background separation without a hefty budget. A practical option that's genuinely useful and well worth collecting.
