Inspector’s condition notes

The lens is in like-new condition. The optics are pristine with no scratches. Focus and aperture operate as smoothly as on a new lens. The internal components are solid with no internal movement or rattle. The exterior body is in like-new condition, but there is minor paint loss or scratches in 2-3 spots along the edges of the lens body or around the focus ring and aperture ring (you have to look closely to notice them).

How this lens renders

Compared to the 24mm wide angle lens of the same spec, this Vivitar stands out as a manual focus prime lens with a maximum aperture as wide as f/2 — quite rare at this focal length. Wide open at f/2, the rendering leans soft, giving a filmic feel, and the character varies from unit to unit. Stopped down to f/2.8, detail retention improves noticeably, and at f/8 it's sharp across the frame — great for capturing landscapes or architecture. What gives this lens its charm is the signature "warp" bokeh that swirls like a defocused zoom, most visible when shooting wide open at f/2 — especially at night with point light sources in the background, producing a look you simply can't get from modern lenses. (The intensity of this bokeh character varies from sample to sample.) Ideal for anyone looking for a wide angle lens to play with distinctive bokeh on a mirrorless camera. The price is reasonable but the character is full-on — a practical and fun option.
