Inspector’s condition notes

Lens in like-new condition. The Optical is perfect, with no scratches. Focus and aperture move smoothly like a new lens. Internal components are tight, with no internal movement or rattle. The exterior body is essentially like new, but there are 2–3 small areas of paint loss or scratches along the lens barrel edges or on the focus ring and aperture ring (you have to look carefully to spot them). The lens hood has a small crack that has been glued.

How this lens renders

Compared to the [5] spec-same Takumar [6] [0] Bayonet mount version, this one has a uniquely soft, gentle character. Wide open at [1], it delivers a soft, low-contrast, film-like rendering — lovely for dreamy portrait work. Stop down to [2] and contrast improves noticeably, with seriously sharp results from [3]–[4] (Japan-made copies tend to be sharper — you can tell from the serial number). Bokeh melts the background smoothly, and highlights render as clean circles, especially at close distances — no swirly character. Color rendering is classic Pentax. Thanks to its non-SMC lens elements, it can produce a soft, dreamy flare when shooting into the light. Attach the lens hood if you'd rather avoid it, or let the light pour in for that ethereal mood. A very worthwhile telephoto manual focus lens to own — ideal for anyone who loves keeping that soft, distinctive rendering character for everyday use on a mirrorless camera.
