Inspector’s condition notes

Lens is in like-new condition. The optics are flawless with no scratches. Focus and aperture operate as smoothly as on a brand-new lens. Internal components are solid, with no loose or rattling parts inside. The exterior body is also in like-new shape, though there are 2–3 small spots of paint loss or fine scratches along the lens barrel edges or around the focus ring and aperture ring (you have to look closely to notice them).

How this lens renders

Compared to the 50mm with the same specs, the standout feature of this Zuiko 50mm f/1.4 is the usable sharpness wide open — more practical than the typical older vintage lens models that tend to be soft and hazy at f/1.4. Opening up at f/1.4 delivers sharpness that's ready for use (the earlier 6-element version is slightly softer). Stop down to f/2.8 through f/8 and the sharpness climbs to its peak. Bokeh is a key selling point. Backgrounds melt away with smooth, beautifully continuous tonal rendering. Colors come out vivid and rich, yet still look natural — never overdone. The bokeh shapes turn polygonal when you stop down the aperture. The lens can produce vignetting wide open, which works nicely as a creative tool to guide the viewer's eye, and it fades away when stopping down to f/4. As for flare, if there's a bright light source in the frame around f/2.8, you can get characterful flare; if you'd rather avoid it, I'd recommend using a lens hood when shooting into backlight. It's a standard prime lens that works for both real-world shooting and is well worth collecting for OM enthusiasts.
