How we gradeInspector’s condition notes
Lens is in good condition. The optics are pristine with no scratches. Focus and aperture move as smoothly as a new lens. The internal elements are tight with no play or rattle. The exterior shows normal use, with light scratches and paint loss typical of the body.
How this lens renders
Compared to the 55mm with the same specs, this Nikkor-S f/1.2 stands out for its solid build quality from Nikon's golden era and its natural rendering. Wide open at f/1.2, the center is sharp enough to use right away — contrast is just right, and the micro-contrast helps separate the subject nicely. The edges sharpen up clearly at f/4, then peak in the f/5.6-f/8 range, giving consistent sharpness across the whole frame. The bokeh melts the background into soft circles with a subtle outline around the highlights, giving a painterly feel. Colors lean toward a slightly warm neutral palette — lovely skin tones, rich yellows and reds, and blues that don't shift toward green. Wide open, you can get vignetting framing the image by roughly 1.5–2 stops, fading away once you stop down to f/4 (barely noticeable on APS-C). This one is single-coated, so if you're shooting backlit and want to avoid flare, I'd recommend fitting a metal lens hood — it helps a lot. A fast 55mm worth collecting and genuinely enjoyable to use on mirrorless.

Honest disclosure
Nikon Nikkor-S
The Nikon Nikkor 55mm f/1.2 (1965-1978) was Nikon's first f/1.2 F-mount lens, a character-driven optic with a dream-like, low-contrast wide-open look that sharpens when stopped down.
