How we gradeInspector’s condition notes
Collector's condition lens. Optical elements are perfect with no scratches. Focus and aperture operate silky smooth, just like a new lens. Internal components are solid and tight — no rattle or play. The exterior body is in like-new condition: no scratches, no scuffs, no paint loss.
How this lens renders
Compared to the 50mm f/1.4 with the same specs like the Super Takumar, the highlight of this Fujinon is its EBC coating, which controls flare and ghosting beyond its era. You can shoot into backlight with more confidence—only a faint purple-green veiling flare shows up. Wide open at f/1.4, the center is sharp and usable right away. The edges start ramping up to crisp at f/2.8, and the frame is seriously sharp across the range f/5.6–f/8, on par with modern lenses. Micro-contrast is excellent, giving the image nice dimensionality. Neutrals are slightly warm, reds and yellows are rich, and greens roll off into beautiful tones. Wide open, the bokeh dissolves the background with a soft, creamy smoothness, and light points render as nicely rounded shapes. When you stop down, the highlights take on a hexagonal form from the aperture blades (6 aperture blades)—a signature look of this lens. Wide open also produces roughly 1.5–2 stops of vignetting for image mood, which then fades once you stop down to f/4. Overall, this is one of the most worthwhile manual focus lenses in this spec—both for everyday use and as a collectible piece.
