Inspector’s condition notes

Lens in good condition. Optical is perfect with no scratch. Focus and aperture glide smoothly like new. Internal parts are tight with no internal lens movement sounds. The exterior body shows use, with easily visible scratch and paint loss commonly found on the lens body.

How this lens renders

Compared to a lens of the same spec, the Yashica ML 50mm f/1.4, this one stands out for its Planar heritage, delivering Zeiss-level sharpness and contrast at a more approachable price. At wide open f/1.4, there's a touch of softness only at minimum focus distance, but the rendering still holds detail well. Stopped down to f/2, it sharpens up noticeably, and at f/4 it's tack-sharp across the frame. The bokeh melts the background smoothly. Chromatic aberration at the edges of the bokeh is low. Colors are vivid and true to life. It handles backlit conditions without shifting tonality. Contrast is excellent, with deep shadow detail retention, and a particularly beautiful black-and-white tonal gradation. It's a vintage lens that delivers Zeiss character at an accessible budget — ideal for anyone looking for a 50mm workhorse lens for daily use, and well worth adding to a collection.
