The Zenitar 16mm f/2.8 Fisheye is Russia's affordable entry into the fisheye world. Still produced today at the Krasnogorsk plant (KMZ), it's one of the few Soviet-era designs that never stopped being manufactured. Diagonal fisheye giving 180° coverage on full frame, with that unmistakable barrel distortion photographers either love or hate.
Verdict: The budget fisheye that actually delivers. Still in production because it works. Sharp, solid, and affordable. If you want to experiment with fisheye without paying a premium, this is your lens.
Sharpness is poor wide open at f/2.8 but improves significantly when stopped down to f/8-f/16. Diffraction starts to impact sharpness by f/16.
Good resistance to flare and reflections due to the ultra-wide 180-degree field of view.
Some vignetting may be present, especially when not properly aligned with the camera mount adapter.
