The SMC Takumar 35mm f/3.5 is a compact, sharp wide-angle that proves you don't need a fast aperture for excellent results. Small, light, and affordable, it's a great travel companion.
Verdict: Practical, sharp, affordable. Great if you don't need speed.
The lens is very sharp and has good color correction, similar to the Tokina 35mm f2.8 macro that it is based on.
The HD Pentax version has above average flare performance, which is a significant improvement over the Tokina version that suffered from 'disastrous flare'.
There is some vignetting at infinity, though it can be corrected. At close non-macro distances, there is a bit of easily correctable vignetting of around 3 stops in the extreme corners. At macro distances, the vignetting is not an issue.
Summary: The Super-Takumar 28mm f3.5 lens is highly praised by users for its excellent image quality, build quality, and value as a vintage lens. Many photographers enjoy using it for landscape, cityscape, and street photography. Sentiment: Positive Top Praised: - Excellent image quality with sharp, detailed results - Robust, well-built construction - Great value as a vintage lens - Ideal for landscape, cityscape, and street photography Top Complaints: - Requires a lens adapter for use on modern cameras - May be difficult to find in good condition Use Cases: - Landscape photography - Cityscape photography - Street photography Disagreements: None noted Confidence: 0.9 (The review provides a comprehensive and consistently positive overview of user experiences with this lens.)
