The Revuenon 55mm f/1.2 MC is a Tomioka-designed fast normal sold under many brand names: Revuenon, Rikenon, Porst, Chinon, and others. Tomioka was the OEM behind many legendary fast 55mm lenses. At f/1.2, it offers razor-thin depth of field and distinctive rendering.
Verdict: A genuine f/1.2 that delivers. The Revuenon 55mm f/1.2 offers excellent bokeh, sharp performance even wide open, and distinctive vintage rendering. The warm color cast and low contrast at f/1.2 are character, not flaws. A hidden gem among fast fifties.
The lens has an unusual rear element shape that results in a distinctive, creamy bokeh character described as 'surreal' and 'baffling' towards the corners.
The lens has a warm, yellowish-brownish color signature that gives images a pleasant, antiquated appearance.
The lens is sharp, but has slightly lower contrast wide open, which can be corrected in post-processing. Stopping down to f/2 and beyond significantly increases sharpness and contrast.
Well controlled with modern coatings.
Good, not clinical. Vintage feel with modern correction.
Present wide open, adds character.
