• Excellent build quality — a solid metal barrel that feels well assembled, praised across multiple reviews.
• A smooth, precise manual focus ring with a long ~270° (over half a turn) throw that makes careful manual focusing easy.
• Good value as a pleasant, character-driven budget wide-angle that punches acceptably for its low price.
• Reasonable-to-good sharpness even wide open, tightening up nicely when stopped down (one f/8 sample looked notably sharp).
• Well-controlled distortion for a 28mm wide-angle.
• The Kiron-made pedigree, which collectors seek out and can identify by serial number.

• Strong susceptibility to flare and a 'fear of backlight' from the large front element, which washes out detail.
• Severe vignetting wide open at f/2.5.
• Inconsistent bokeh — sometimes lovely, sometimes mediocre — with intrusive circular ringed highlights.
• Colour and contrast that sit slightly behind comparable Pentax primes.

• Treat backlight as the enemy: shade the large front element with your hand or a hood, or reposition so the light source is out of frame — this is the single biggest thing you can do to preserve contrast and detail.
• Stop down to around f/5.6–f/8 to sharpen the image, tame the severe wide-open vignetting, and clean up the corners; wide-open f/2.5 is usable but softer with heavy corner darkening.
• Use the long ~270° focus throw to your advantage for slow, deliberate manual focusing.
• If you want the cleanest rendering, keep bright point-light sources out of the defocused areas, since flare turns them into ringed discs; alternatively, embrace those ringed highlights deliberately when you want the lens's characterful look.
• Meter for and lean into the wide-open vignetting only when it suits the composition; otherwise close down a stop or two to even out the frame.
